Il a répandu la rosée sur elles

Saints compose about other saints

Two great figures of medieval music respond to each other across the centuries: Kassia (or Cassienne of Constantinople, 9th century) on the one hand, and Hildegard von Bingen (12th century) on the other.

The program "Il a répandu la rosée sur elles" features pieces written by Kassia and Hildegard about two great figures of holiness from late antiquity, respectively Saint Christine of Tyre and Saint Ursula of Cologne.

Kassia and Hildegard, both abbesses of their communities, the first in Constantinople and the second in Bingen (Germany), saw in these two figures of martyrs particularly revered in the Middle Ages sources of inspiration for their own vocations.

They therefore evoke them with great admiration in a very poetic language intended to arouse wonder and the agreement of the listeners, as well as of their fellow nuns, who sang this repertoire.

Repertoire:

Kassia: Olvon lipousa - Doxazomen sou Christe - Ti parthenike - Stavron os oplon - Ethavmatourgese Christe

Hildegard von Bingen: Deus enim rorem - Spiritui sancto - Unde quocumque - Cum vox Sanguinis Ursule - O Ecclesia - Sed diabolus - O rubor Sanguinis - Favus distillans
